Tom Carroll


Tom Carroll is a guitarist born in Columbus, Ohio in 1950. He moved to New York City in March 1961. He presently lives in Granville, Ohio where he lives with his wife Joy and two sons, Alex and Ian.

Tom began playing guitar at 15 after hearing The Beatles. He attended Bishop Loughlin and John Adams High Schools in NY. Tom attended S.U.N.Y. Binghamton. He studied guitar with Carl Thompson and Dennis Sandole and he studied theory and arranging with Dave Wheeler.

He has played with Hank Marr, Brother Jack McDuff, Bobby Pierce, Rusty Bryant, Junior Cook, Ernie Watts, Marvin Stamm, Jimmy Heath, Gary Carney, Gene Bertoncini, Jack Wilkins, Cal Collins, Gene Walker, David "Fathead" Newman.

He has taught guitar at The Ohio State University (1977-1992), Capital University (1981-2) and is the Coordinator of Jazz Studies at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. At Denison, he has established The Denison Jazz Guitar Festival (1997) which is a three day event on the campus featuring concerts and clinics.

Tom is also a founder of the Granville Hot Licks Bluesfest which is held each September in Granville in support of a local charity. In 2011, the Festival benefitted Mental Health America's YES Clubhouse.

As a member of the acoustic group BASS FIDDLE, He has toured Brazil and performed with symphonies in the U.S.A.
